HIV, AIDS, and Older Adults
http://www.aoa.gov/eldfam//Healthy_Lifestyles/HIV/HIV.asp
The number of older people with HIV/AIDS is on the rise.
About 10% of all people diagnosed with AIDS in the United
States - some 75,000 Americans - are age 50 and older. Because
older people don't get tested for HIV/AIDS on a regular
basis, there may be even more cases than we know. How has
this happened? Because older Americans know less about HIV?AIDS
than younger age groups: how it is spread; the importance
of using condoms and not sharing needles; the importance
of getting tested; the importance of talking to a doctor.
What To Do About Flu
http://niapublications.org/engagepages/flu.asp
Each winter, millions of people suffer from the flu, a highly
contagious infection. The flu can be life threatening in
older adults and in people of any age who have chronic illness
such as diabetes, heart, lung, or kidney disease.
Sexuality in Later Life
http://niapublications.org/engagepages/sexuality.asp
Most older people want and are able to enjoy an active,
satisfying sex life. Regular sexual activity helps maintain
sexual ability. However, over time everyone may notice a
slowing response. This is part of the normal aging process.
Prostate Problems
http://niapublications.org/engagepages/prostate.asp
Prostate problems are common in men 50 and older. Most can
be treated successfully without harming sexual function.
A urologist (a specialist in diseases of the urinary system)
is the kind of doctor most qualified to diagnose and treat
many prostate problems.
Exercise
http://www.aoa.gov/eldfam/Healthy_Lifestyles/Phy_Act_Nut/Phy_Act_Nut.asp
Adults young and old can help put and end to a major public
health enemy: lack of physical activity. The crime: adding
to disease and disability.
